Worms or Insects in Atta? What to Do Next
Recognise signs of pantry pests, handle affected flour, inspect nearby foods and prevent insects from spreading through your storage cupboard.

Treat insects as a quality concern
Live insects, larvae or webbing in atta deserve attention. Their presence does not prove that flour is organic or free from chemical residues. It also does not, by itself, tell you where in the supply or storage chain the infestation began.
Several stored-food pests can affect flour and other dry ingredients. Identifying a species or blaming a particular stage from a photograph alone can be unreliable.
Stop using the affected flour
Set the package aside and inspect nearby dry foods. University of Minnesota Extension recommends discarding infested products and cleaning the storage area. Sifting out visible insects does not remove all the material left in the food.
- If you need to report a recent purchase, photograph the issue and retain the label and purchase details.
- Keep the affected pack sealed and separate while arranging the supplier's assessment or disposal.
- Inspect other flour, grains, pulses, nuts and dry foods in the same area.
- Do not mix affected flour with a new batch.
Clean the cupboard as well as the container
Empty the affected storage space, remove spilled food and clean cracks and corners. Clean and dry reusable containers before refilling them. Discard cleaning debris outside the food-storage area.
Do not spray insecticide into food or a food container. Bay leaves, neem oil or other home remedies should not be used as a reason to keep visibly infested flour. Removing the source and protecting replacement food matter more.
Make replacement food easier to protect
Keep dry ingredients in suitable tightly closed containers. Label them with purchase or opening dates and use older batches first. Buy quantities that fit your household's actual use rather than leaving a large reserve open for months.
Check new packs before storing them with existing supplies. Follow the product's instructions for cool, dry storage or cold storage where appropriate. Inspect the cupboard periodically, especially in warm weather.
Report a concern with useful details
For a Swastah purchase, keep the product and original packaging or label available for assessment. Provide the order number, date, storage details and clear photographs through support. The applicable policy explains the complaint process and available assessment.
Do not wait for a particular number of insects before raising a concern. A prompt, specific report helps the supplier investigate the actual product and batch.
