Start with the complete purchase

Buying wheat and taking it to a chakki can give you control over the grain and grind. Ordering freshly milled atta can save a trip. Neither option is always cheaper: compare the full cost for your household.

Include the grain bill, milling charge and any extra transport or delivery cost. Keep your time as a separate consideration so you can distinguish money paid from the convenience you value.

Use the actual flour output

If you buy grain for milling, record both the input weight and the flour received. Cleaning, moisture, handling and the process can affect the result. A single fixed loss percentage should not be assumed for every grain or mill.

Divide the batch cost by the actual kilograms of flour supplied. If you are comparing a delivered product, check what weight and charges its bill includes.

An example you can replace with your own figures

The following figures are hypothetical. They are not current Swastah prices or a claim about typical milling losses. Suppose a batch costs ₹400 for grain, ₹80 for milling and ₹20 for an additional trip, and yields 9.5 kg of flour.

Make the comparison fair

Compare similar wheat, the same quantity and the same service. A bulk purchase may reduce the price per kilogram but require more storage. A smaller order can suit a household that wants to finish its flour sooner.

  • Include only travel that the purchase adds; a combined errand may cost little extra.
  • Check delivery charges and the conditions of any coupon.
  • Compare the final amount payable, not a headline discount.
  • Keep time separate unless you want to assign your own value to it.

Choose for your routine

A nearby mill, a shared family errand or a delivered order may each offer good value in different circumstances. Add freshness, grain choice, storage space and reliability to the decision.
